7 Reasons for Cleaning Your Dryer Vent Regularly

Why clean my dryer vent

If you’re like me, you take your clothes dryer for granted…until it no longer works properly. The main reason that dryers don’t do what they’re supposed to do is because the dryer vent is clogged or not cleaned on a regular basis. I want to give you seven reasons you should clean your dryer vent regularly.

Your dryer will last longer

Your dryer is an expensive piece of equipment that has been designed to work in an environment where the hot air and moisture get blown away from the main unit. If that is not happening, it is more prone to get backed up with lint and moisture. This will decrease its life cycle and potentially cause it to quit working faster than it should, and a dryer is something you want to work for a long time.

Less fire risk

Lint from clothing is extremely flammable…in fact, it can be used as a great campfire starter, but that’s another story. According to FEMA, 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year and cause an estimated 5 deaths, 100 injuries, and $35 million in property loss.

You want to get the clothes lint that is backed up in your vents out of there to decrease the risk of fire in your home.

Help your clothes last longer

The less time your clothes spend in the dryer, the longer they will last. Have you ever seen an article of clothing that has been in the dryer all mangled up? Your clothes are much better off if they don’t have to be in the dryer for a long time.

It will take you less time to do laundry

Who likes to take all day on a Saturday to do laundry? Nobody! So if you get your dryer vent cleaned regularly and your dryer is working more efficiently. So you will spend less time doing laundry and everyone in the family will be happy.

Your electric bill will most likely go down

An efficient dryer uses less electricity and dries clothes more quickly, causing your energy bill to go down in the process. It doesn’t do a lot of good to spend a lot of money on an energy efficient dryer and then not clean the dryer vent.

Be sure to clean the vent and save money.

It’s better for the environment

I know this one goes with number five, but if you want to help the environment, take some time to clean your dryer vent.

To keep animals out of your vents

Your dryer vent probably has an opening on your roof or somewhere that birds and other animals like to nest. If they find a lot of lint and other items in there, they might think they can just hang out there for the winter.

This could cause big problems in the future, so keep that dryer vent clean and keep the animals out of it.
